A Delhi court has sent two accused, Sudhanshu and Shubham Tyagi, to 12 days of judicial custody in connection with the collapse of a five-storey paying guest (PG) building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on September 6.
The Patiala House Court passed the order after the two accused were arrested in connection with the building collapse. According to the Delhi Police, Sudhanshu and Shubham Tyagi were allegedly operating a PG facility in the building that collapsed.
The two accused will remain in judicial custody as the investigation into the incident continues. Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the building’s condition and the operation of the PG premises.
Survey of PG Buildings After Satya Niketan Incident
Following the Satya Niketan building collapse, authorities conducted a survey of 2,250 PG accommodations across Delhi to assess the safety and structural condition of such buildings.
The survey found that 138 buildings require repairs, highlighting concerns over the safety of several PG properties in the capital.
The Southern Zone recorded the highest number of PG buildings requiring attention, with 90 properties identified in the area. These buildings are reportedly home to around 47,000 people.
