India has expressed serious concern over a reported drone attack near Mecca after Saudi Arabia accused Yemen-based Houthi rebels of sending a drone towards the holy city.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India strongly opposes attacks on Saudi Arabia’s sovereign territory and any action that puts civilians or critical infrastructure at risk. New Delhi also highlighted the special religious significance of Mecca for Muslims around the world.
What Did India Say About the Drone Incident Near Mecca?
Responding to media queries, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India was deeply concerned about the reported incident near Mecca.
India reiterated its opposition to attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s sovereign territory, particularly actions that could endanger civilian lives or essential infrastructure.
The MEA also underlined that the incident is particularly concerning because of Mecca’s unique religious importance and its significance to Muslims globally.
Saudi Arabia Accuses Houthis of Sending Drone
According to the information cited in connection with the incident, Saudi Arabia has accused Yemen-based Houthi rebels of sending a drone towards Mecca.
India, however, did not independently assign responsibility for the reported attack. Its response focused primarily on respecting Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and preventing attacks that could threaten civilians and critical infrastructure.
The development comes amid continuing security concerns in the wider region, where drone and missile attacks have repeatedly raised concerns over civilian safety and regional stability.
