Police forces in several Indian states are increasingly adding electric vehicles to their fleets. Kolkata Police has now joined the shift, receiving electric motorcycles designed specifically for policing and patrol duties.
Kolkata Police Gets Ultraviolette X47
Kolkata Police has been equipped with 183 units of the Ultraviolette X47 Skyforce, an electric adventure motorcycle from Bengaluru-based manufacturer Ultraviolette.
The motorcycles have been customised to meet the operational requirements of the police force. The specially equipped X47 units feature a siren, hooter, public announcement (PA) system, LED blinkers, microphone holder, walkie-talkie holder and side panniers.
Advanced Safety and ADAS Features
The X47 Skyforce comes with UV Hypersense, an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) technology. The motorcycle offers a 150-degree front view, 68-degree rear vertical view and a tracking range of up to 200 metres.
Its safety and rider-assistance features include rear collision warning, lane-change assist, overtake alert, dual-channel ABS, four-level traction control, nine-level regenerative braking, dynamic stability control and tow alert.
The motorcycle also gets a dual-screen setup as part of its technology package.
10.7 kWh Battery and 40 HP Motor
The electric motorcycle is equipped with an air-cooled 10.7 kWh battery pack and a 1.6 kW onboard charger. It also includes safety features such as surge protection and earth-leakage protection.
The electric motor produces 40 hp, while the claimed range is up to 323 km on a single charge. The motorcycle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 sec
