The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended five officials, including the South Zone Deputy Commissioner, following the collapse of a five-storey PG building at P-14, Satya Niketan.
The MCD Vigilance Department issued separate suspension orders on September 7, 2026. All five officials have been suspended with immediate effect and will remain so pending departmental proceedings.

Deputy Commissioner’s Suspension Draws Attention
Rakesh Kumar’s suspension is considered significant as it is reportedly the first time a Deputy Commissioner-level MCD official has been suspended in connection with a building-collapse case. Kumar was serving in the MCD on deputation from Bihar.
The engineering team has also faced action. Superintending Engineer Ranveer Singh was suspended under Regulation 5(2) of the DMC Services (Control & Appeal) Regulations, 1959, pending departmental proceedings. The Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer were also suspended with immediate effect.
MCD Intensifies Action Against Unsafe Buildings
The suspensions come after the Satya Niketan PG collapse as the Delhi government and MCD step up action against illegal and dangerous buildings.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revisited the site and reviewed safety arrangements, relief operations and enforcement measures. Authorities have directed officials to immediately seal illegal five-storey buildings and carry out intensive inspections of nearby PG accommodations and other buildings.
P-13 Building Declared Dangerous
The neighbouring P-13 building was also affected by the collapse and has been declared dangerous by the MCD.
The corporation has given the owner three days to demolish the building. If the owner fails to act within the deadline, the MCD can demolish the structure itself and recover the demolition cost from the concerned person.
The latest suspensions expand the action beyond the collapsed building, putting both MCD officials responsible for the area and potentially unsafe surrounding structures under scrutiny.
