Sony may be preparing a refreshed PlayStation Portal, and the latest certification listings have added more weight to rumours of an OLED version of the handheld.
Two Sony Interactive Entertainment devices with model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 have appeared in the Wi-Fi Alliance database. The listings classify them as gaming console/peripheral devices and show Android 15 and dual-band Wi-Fi support.
Could This Be the PlayStation Portal OLED?
The current PlayStation Portal uses models from the CFI-Y1000 series, making the jump to CFI-Y2000 particularly interesting. However, the certification does not explicitly mention the PlayStation Portal or an OLED display.

Rumours of an OLED Portal have been circulating since earlier this year, with reports suggesting Sony could introduce an upgraded version before the end of 2026. The new certification therefore fits the timeline, but it is still not confirmation.

An OLED panel could bring deeper blacks, stronger contrast and potentially a more impressive gaming experience compared with the current LCD screen.
Wi-Fi Upgrade May Not Be Coming
Interestingly, the certification information does not point to a major wireless upgrade.
The new devices reportedly support 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi 5, with no indication of 6GHz or Wi-Fi 6 support. That means Sony could be focusing the refresh on the display or internal design rather than significantly improving wireless connectivity.
| Feature | Current PlayStation Portal | Rumoured New Model |
|---|---|---|
| Model series | CFI-Y1000 | CFI-Y2000 |
| Display | 8-inch LCD | OLED reportedly possible |
| Software | Android-based | Android 15 |
| Wi-Fi | 2.4GHz/5GHz | 2.4GHz/5GHz |
| 6GHz Wi-Fi | No | Not listed |
| Status | Available | Unannounced |
Sony Has Not Confirmed Anything Yet
The new filings are an interesting clue, but they don’t reveal the screen technology, processor, battery capacity, pricing or launch date.
Sony’s existing Portal has also continued receiving software improvements. In March, Sony introduced a 1080p High Quality mode along with other Remote Play and Cloud Streaming improvements.
For now, the PlayStation Portal OLED remains a rumour. If these new CFI-Y2000-series devices are indeed the next Portal generation, Sony could reveal more details later this year.
