Haryana Safai Karamcharis: Amid the ongoing sanitation workers’ strike in Haryana, the state government has announced a proposal for job security and higher salaries.
Currently, sanitation workers receive ₹20,590 per month, including a ₹19,000 salary and ₹1,590 in allowances. With job security, the monthly payment would increase to ₹22,590, comprising ₹21,000 salary and ₹1,590 allowances.
The government also said employees would receive annual salary increments under the job security rules.
Workers Reject Government’s Claims
Employee unions have disputed the government’s claims, saying several demands described as “agreed in principle” were already part of earlier agreements.
Union leaders said that despite the May 13 agreement, necessary government orders to implement the demands have not yet been issued.
They are demanding regularisation of municipal workers, an end to the contract system, permanent recruitment of sanitation and sewer workers, and equal pay for equal work. The unions have called for the May 13 agreement to be implemented immediately.
