Bihar flood victims are set to receive financial relief as the state government prepares to transfer ₹7,000 each to 8,27,472 affected families through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The assistance will be credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts as ex-gratia relief. The Disaster Management Department has compiled the list of eligible families based on reports submitted by Circle Officers across the affected districts.
According to the current figures, the government will distribute around ₹579.23 crore in financial assistance. The number of beneficiaries could increase before the final transfer. The money is scheduled to be sent at around 11:30 AM on Tuesday.
49.46 Lakh People Affected Across 15 Districts
Flooding caused by the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Punpun and other rivers has affected 15 districts, 88 blocks and 575 gram panchayats across Bihar this year.
Around 49.46 lakh people have been impacted by the floods.
The affected districts include Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnia, Madhepura and Arwal.
1,260 Community Kitchens Providing Food
Relief operations continue across flood-hit areas. As many as 1,260 community kitchens are currently operating in different parts of the state.
These kitchens have so far provided morning and evening meals to approximately 1.19 crore people.
The state is also operating 13 relief camps, where around 11,060 people are receiving accommodation along with food, medical care and other essential services.
The number of community kitchens was recently increased from 1,257 to 1,260, while relief camps were reduced from 15 to 13.
Authorities have also distributed around 13,121 quintals of cattle fodder to help protect livestock in flood-affected areas.
Several Rivers Still Above Danger Mark
Water levels in several rivers remain a concern despite signs of improvement in some areas.
According to reports from the Central Water Commission and the India Meteorological Department, the Ganga is receding at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur. However, several rivers and river stretches continue to flow above their respective danger levels.
These include the Kosi at Baltara and Kursela, the Burhi Gandak in Khagaria, the Ganga at Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah in Patna, the Ganga at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur, the Ganga at Munger, the Punpun at Sripalpur, the Bagmati at Benibad and the Ghaghara at Darauli.
With water levels still elevated in several locations, authorities continue to monitor the situation while relief and assistance measures remain underway across the affected districts.
