US President Donald Trump abruptly cut short his weekend trip and returned to Washington, D.C., on Saturday evening—one day earlier than planned.
A video released by the White House showed Trump stepping off Marine One after landing in Washington. The White House has not yet provided an official explanation for the sudden change in his schedule. Trump had been expected to remain at Camp David until Sunday.
Why Has Trump’s Sudden Return Raised Questions?
Trump’s unexpected return came as the US State Department issued a new security alert concerning West Asia on Saturday.
The department urged American citizens in the region to exercise increased caution and prepare for possible travel disruptions. It also warned that the ongoing military conflict could escalate rapidly.
Saudi Arabia Confirms Missile Attack
The development came on the same day Saudi Arabia confirmed that Yemen’s Houthi rebels had attempted to target the capital, Riyadh, with a ballistic missile.
Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree claimed that the group had used multiple missiles and drones to target Riyadh as well as facilities of Saudi oil giant Aramco in Yanbu.
The reported attack comes amid continuing tensions and conflict involving the Iran-backed Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia.
US Issues Travel Warning
In its latest advisory, the US State Department warned American citizens against travelling to West Asia because of the possibility of a rapid escalation in the military conflict.
Americans already in the region were also advised to closely monitor the latest information about airports and flight operations and remain prepared for potential disruptions.
Trump’s unexpected return to Washington, combined with the fresh US security warning and the reported missile attack on Saudi Arabia, has added to concerns over the rapidly developing situation in West Asia.
