Barnala: Punjab Police have made a major breakthrough in the firing case at the ancestral home of Punjabi singer Gulab Sidhu in Barnala. Police have arrested the suspects allegedly involved in the attack after an encounter on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the police operation took place near the link road connecting Pakho Kalan towards Dhurkot/Pulara. During the operation, police and suspected shooters exchanged fire, following which the suspects were taken into custody.
The accused are reportedly from different parts of Punjab. Police are now investigating their alleged role in the firing and the larger conspiracy behind the attack.
Gulab Sidhu Was Not at Home During Firing
The incident took place during the intervening night of September 12 and 13 at Gulab Sidhu’s ancestral residence in Farwahi village, Barnala.
According to CCTV footage and earlier reports, three masked men arrived outside the house on a motorcycle at around 1:30 am. The attackers stopped the motorcycle outside the residence, after which one of the men reportedly took out a pistol and opened fire at the house.
Several rounds were fired at the main gate. Reports have put the number of rounds at around five to eight. No one was injured in the incident.
Gulab Sidhu was not present at the house when the firing took place, which prevented what could have been a much more serious incident.
CCTV Captured the Attack
The attackers were captured on CCTV cameras while carrying out the firing. The footage reportedly showed three masked men arriving on a motorcycle and firing outside the singer’s residence before fleeing from the spot.
Police subsequently launched an investigation and formed teams to identify the people involved. Investigators also examined CCTV footage and other available evidence.
Earlier Attack Plot in January
The latest incident has also brought an earlier case involving Gulab Sidhu back into focus.
On January 10, 2026, Barnala Police arrested three people for allegedly plotting an attack on the singer. According to earlier reports, the alleged main conspirator was Baljinder Singh, also known as Kinda, the sarpanch of Kotduna village.
Police had alleged that the accused was angry over Gulab Sidhu’s song “Sarpanchiyan” and had also issued threats to the singer on social media.
The accused were reportedly planning to target Sidhu during a live show. Investigators had alleged that the broader objective was to create fear in Punjab and subsequently extort money.
Police to Reveal Details of Conspiracy
The latest arrests are expected to shed more light on who allegedly planned the September attack, why Gulab Sidhu’s ancestral home was targeted and whether the accused were acting on instructions from someone else.
DIG Kuldeep Singh Chahal was scheduled to address a press conference at the SSP Barnala office at 1 pm, where police were expected to present the arrested suspects and provide further details about the investigation.
The police briefing is likely to clarify the exact number of suspects arrested, their identities, the weapons recovered and the alleged motive behind the attack.
