Mahindra has refreshed its iconic three-door Thar OG, bringing major mechanical and feature upgrades while retaining its compact design. But with the five-door Thar Roxx already on sale, buyers now have two very different Thar options.
So, what separates the two?
Price: Thar OG Starts Lower
The 2026 Mahindra Thar OG starts at ₹10.32 lakh and goes up to ₹18.99 lakh ex-showroom under introductory pricing. The Thar Roxx currently starts at ₹12.52 lakh, with the range extending to ₹23.52 lakh depending on the variant.
That makes the Thar OG the lower-priced entry point into Mahindra’s current Thar lineup.
3 Doors vs 5 Doors
This is the biggest difference.
The Thar OG is a 3-door, 4-seat SUV, while the Thar Roxx is a 5-door, 5-seat SUV.
The OG measures 3,995 mm in length with a 2,450 mm wheelbase. The Roxx is substantially larger, measuring 4,428 mm with a 2,850 mm wheelbase.
The OG sticks to the traditional Thar formula, while the Roxx is designed to offer greater practicality.
Engines
The Thar OG gets three engine options:
- 1.5-litre diesel — 300 Nm
- 2.2-litre diesel — 330 Nm
- 2.0-litre turbo-petrol — 330 Nm
The 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol get increased outputs in the new OG, while the 1.5-litre diesel retains its existing output.
The Roxx also gets 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, with outputs varying by transmission and variant.
Both models offer RWD and 4WD configurations, but availability depends on the engine and variant.
Features: Roxx Still Has the Premium Edge
The updated Thar OG gets electric power steering, revised PENTALINK rear suspension, DAVINCI damping, terrain modes and an electronic locking differential on 4WD variants.
The Roxx goes further in higher variants, offering features such as a panoramic skyroof, Harman Kardon audio, ventilated seats and Level 2 ADAS.
The OG’s ZXT adds six airbags, all-disc brakes, TPMS, a rear-view camera and front parking sensors. Lower AXT and LXT variants have different equipment levels.
Which Thar Is For You?
The Thar OG is aimed at buyers who want the classic three-door Thar design, a smaller footprint and a lower starting price.
The Thar Roxx is aimed at buyers who need five doors, more cabin space and additional premium features.
The new Thar OG narrows the equipment and technology gap, but the Roxx remains the larger and more feature-rich option in its higher variants.
