Ahmedabad Sofia Case: A 22-year-old woman in Ahmedabad was allegedly killed by her father and brother in what police have described as an honour killing, with the accused reportedly attempting to make her death appear to be the result of a road accident.
Sofia, who had worked as a hospital receptionist, died after suffering severe head injuries. Police investigations into what was initially reported as a hit-and-run case allegedly uncovered a conspiracy involving her own family.
Sofia’s Death Was Initially Reported as Road Accident
The incident took place on the night of August 12, when Sofia was travelling on a motorcycle with her father, Mohmand Farooq, and her 38-year-old brother, Mohmand Habil.
According to the police investigation, Habil allegedly took the motorcycle onto a secluded dirt road near Gheljipura village, where he attacked Sofia with a hammer.
Police allege that the father and son subsequently took her back to the main road and damaged the motorcycle in an attempt to make the incident look like a high-speed road collision.
Brother Reportedly Told Police About Hit-and-Run
After the alleged attack, Habil reportedly approached authorities and claimed that a speeding vehicle had struck their motorcycle from behind near the Gheljipura intersection.
He allegedly told investigators that Sofia suffered serious head injuries in the collision and that he himself sustained bruises.
Sofia was taken to Sola Civil Hospital, where she died from her injuries the following day.
Viral Video Allegedly Led to Murder Plot
According to police, the investigation uncovered a possible motive linked to a video involving Sofia and a man that had reportedly circulated online around three months before her death.
Police allege that Sofia’s father and brother were angry over the video and feared social humiliation. Investigators believe the two allegedly planned her murder and subsequently attempted to conceal it by staging a road accident.
Father and Brother in Custody
Police allege that Habil concealed an iron hammer before leaving home with Sofia and their father on the night of the incident.
Both Mohmand Farooq and Mohmand Habil have been taken into custody and face murder charges.
The investigation is continuing, with police examining the circumstances surrounding Sofia’s death and the alleged attempt to portray the killing as a road accident.
