Greater Noida Bus Fire: A tragic accident took place in Greater Noida’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district late Wednesday night after a moving tourist bus caught fire near Jewar Airport on the Yamuna Expressway. At least nine passengers were killed, while several others were injured in the incident.
The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also taken cognisance of the accident and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
Bus Caught Fire Around Midnight
According to the information available, the accident occurred at around 12 midnight when the bus was travelling on the Yamuna Expressway, around 34 kilometres from Noida.
As soon as the fire broke out, panic spread among the passengers. Some passengers managed to escape from the bus after noticing the fire. However, the flames rapidly engulfed the entire vehicle, leaving several people trapped inside.
Nine passengers were reportedly killed after being caught in the intense fire, while several others sustained injuries.
The burning bus also caused panic among motorists travelling along the expressway. A video of the incident has also surfaced, showing the bus completely engulfed in flames.
Police Begin Investigation
After receiving information about the incident, police from Jewar Kotwali reached the spot and assessed the situation.
Police said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established and an investigation is underway.
Passenger Sunil Kumar, son of Badriprasad, a resident of Khushipura locality in Rath police station area of Hamirpur district, has reportedly filed an FIR in connection with the incident.
According to Sunil’s statement, he had boarded a Raj Kalpana Travels bus bearing registration number BR32PA8647 from Delhi’s Kashmere Gate to travel to Rath. Around 30–35 passengers were reportedly travelling on the bus.
Passenger Alleges Warning About Burning Smell Was Ignored
According to the complaint, at around 11:30 pm, when the bus reached near Kilometre 33 of the Noida-Agra Yamuna Expressway, some passengers noticed a burning smell coming from the bus cabin.
The passengers reportedly informed the driver and conductor about the smell. However, the complaint alleges that the driver did not immediately stop the bus to inspect the problem.
The passenger further alleged that the driver and conductor continued smoking bidis or cigarettes inside their cabin.
Shortly afterwards, flames reportedly emerged near the driver’s seat and quickly spread through the bus. Nine people lost their lives in the fire, while several others were injured.
The allegations made in the complaint are part of the ongoing investigation.
CM Yogi Adityanath Takes Cognisance
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the bus fire in Greater Noida and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and instructed authorities to provide all possible assistance to the affected families.
He also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.
President Murmu Expresses Grief Over Bus Fire
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed grief over the deaths in the bus fire on the Yamuna Expressway.
In a post on X on Thursday, the President described the loss of life as deeply distressing and expressed her condolences to the families of the victims. She also wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.
She said:
“The news of people’s deaths after a bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims. I wish for the speedy recovery of those injured in this accident.”
Rajnath Singh Condoles Deaths
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief over the incident.

He described the deaths of passengers in the sleeper bus fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida as extremely tragic and expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
Rajnath Singh also prayed for strength for the bereaved families to cope with the loss and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.
