Following the latest revision, the CNG price in Delhi has increased from ₹83.09 to ₹86.98 per kg. The company attributed the hike to higher international LNG prices amid continued tensions and disruptions in the Middle East.
The latest increase is expected to raise fuel expenses for CNG car owners, taxis, auto-rickshaws and other vehicles that rely on natural gas.
Delhi CNG Price Increased to ₹86.98 Per Kg
IGL announced the price revision on Friday, August 28. Under the new pricing structure, motorists in Delhi will now pay ₹86.98 per kg for CNG, compared with the earlier price of ₹83.09.
The revised rates took effect early Saturday morning.
IGL said the increase has been driven by rising input costs, particularly the higher cost of imported spot LNG used to meet growing demand for natural gas in India.
Why Has CNG Become More Expensive?
According to IGL, renewed tensions in West Asia since July have affected LNG supplies and international gas markets.
The company said disruptions to LNG movement through the Strait of Hormuz have continued, contributing to a sharp increase in global gas prices compared with levels before the conflict began.
IGL explained that a significant portion of the additional gas required to meet India’s growing CNG demand comes from imported spot LNG. With international LNG prices rising, the cost of sourcing this gas has also increased.
The company said the latest CNG price revision was necessary to partially offset these higher input costs.

The latest revision marks the fifth CNG price increase since the start of the Iran conflict, according to the information released by IGL.
Despite the repeated increases, the company said the rise in Delhi’s CNG prices has been considerably lower than the increases seen in major international gas markets.

IGL pointed to the sharp rise in international gas prices as a major reason behind the latest domestic CNG hike.
The company said European TTF gas prices have climbed by around 105%, while Asian JKM LNG prices have increased by approximately 113% compared with pre-conflict levels.
By comparison, the increase in Delhi’s CNG price has been around 7.8%, according to IGL.
The company maintains that the domestic increase remains significantly lower than the price escalation witnessed in international markets.
