Gurugram Hit and Run Case: Gurugram Police have arrested Kalyan Bainsla, the car driver accused of deliberately hitting woman biker Sia on Golf Course Road, from Dausa in Rajasthan. Bainsla had been on the run since the incident on September 13.
Police said the case was initially registered under provisions related to rash and negligent driving. However, after examining video footage of the incident, investigators concluded that the car appeared to have been deliberately steered towards Sia’s motorcycle. The police subsequently added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to attempt to murder.
Video Footage Helped Police Identify Intent
Gurugram Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered a case at Sector 56 Police Station. The initial FIR included BNS Sections 281 and 125.
During a detailed examination of videos related to the incident, investigators found footage that allegedly showed the car being turned towards Sia’s bike. Based on these findings, the attempt-to-murder charge under Section 109 was added to the case.
Police also formed three special teams to trace Bainsla after he allegedly fled following the incident.
What Happened on Golf Course Road?
Sia was riding her Aprilia RS 457 with a group of other riders when the incident took place on Golf Course Road. A video of the incident was later circulated on Instagram.
Sia subsequently released a video in which she alleged that the car driver intentionally rammed into her motorcycle.
According to her account, the driver initially signalled her to stop. When she did not stop, he allegedly turned the car towards her bike and struck it.
Police to Question the Accused
Following his arrest in Dausa, Bainsla will be questioned about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are also expected to examine the available video footage and other evidence as part of the investigation.
The addition of BNS Section 109 significantly changes the nature of the case. Police said the provision carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison, subject to the facts established during the investigation and court proceedings.
The investigation will now focus on reconstructing the sequence of events and determining the circumstances and intent behind the collision.
