Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. The company unveiled the device with a book-style foldable design, a large inner display and a separate outer screen. Apple says the iPhone Duo combines the versatility of a foldable phone with the familiar iPhone experience.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding display when opened, making it the largest display ever fitted to an iPhone. Apple says the inner screen is 50% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The device also has a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display.
The phone will be available in Night Sky and Star White colour options. In India, pre-orders will begin at 5:30 PM IST on October 16, while the device will be available from October 23.
iPhone Duo price in India
The iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900 in India. Apple also lists a monthly payment option of ₹48,817 for six months, including instant cashback and No Cost EMI, subject to the applicable terms.
Apple’s India website confirms that the iPhone Duo is available with storage configurations extending up to 2TB.
iPhone Duo display and foldable design
The iPhone Duo’s biggest highlight is its foldable display. The inner screen measures 19.26 cm (7.6 inches) diagonally and uses Apple’s Super Retina XDR technology.
The inner display consists of 10 ultra-thin layers and has a custom nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare. Apple also says the display uses wide-angle OLEDs and can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
The inner screen has an under-display FaceTime camera, which remains hidden until it is needed. This allows Apple to provide an uninterrupted viewing surface on the foldable display.
On the outside, the iPhone Duo features a 13.26 cm (5.4-inch) Super Retina XDR outer display. Apple says the outer display has more than 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.
The foldable design allows the phone to be used in different positions and orientations. It can be opened for a larger viewing area, positioned at an angle for watching content or placed upright for hands-free video calls.
A20 Pro chip powers the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip. According to Apple, the processor has a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators.
Apple says the A20 Pro delivers up to 20% faster 6-core CPU performance compared with the A19 Pro and provides up to 50% more memory bandwidth.
The chip also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, which is designed to handle demanding AI workloads. Apple has paired the processor with an advanced thermal-management system featuring a vapour chamber, helping the phone maintain performance during demanding tasks and gaming sessions.
iPhone Duo camera specifications
For photography, the iPhone Duo comes with a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system on the rear.
The setup includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. Apple says the Fusion Main camera uses 48MP frames throughout the imaging pipeline to deliver high-resolution photographs.
The phone supports 2x optical-quality zoom, allowing users to get closer to subjects while retaining detail.
For video recording, the iPhone Duo can capture 4K video at up to 120fps. Apple also highlights features such as Cinematic mode, 4K time-lapse, smart focus tracking and low-light video recording.
At the front, the phone has a 12MP Center Stage camera. It also features an under-display FaceTime camera on the inner folding screen.
Apple has introduced several camera features specifically for the foldable design, including Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime.
Smart Take can detect when everyone in a group is ready before taking a picture, while Duo Preview allows people in front of the camera to see a preview. Center Stage also enables more flexible framing for selfies and video calls.
Battery life and charging
Apple has used an iPhone-first dual-battery system in the iPhone Duo. The company says the design makes better use of the internal space available inside the foldable device.
According to Apple’s testing, the phone can provide up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display. When using the outer display, the figure increases to up to 44 hours.
The iPhone Duo also supports fast wired charging. Apple says the phone can reach up to 50% charge in around 20 minutes when used with compatible charging equipment.
The device also supports eSIM, with Apple stating that the internal space-saving eSIM design contributes to the phone’s battery architecture.
iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, with Apple highlighting new experiences designed around its dual-display and foldable form factor.
The larger inner display can be used for multitasking and different viewing arrangements, while the outer display provides a more conventional smartphone experience.
The phone also supports Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Apple says Siri AI is available in beta in iOS 27 and is initially available in English. Features include conversational interactions, personal context, app actions and access to information from online sources.
Apple Intelligence also brings features such as Clean Up, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, Writing Tools and other AI-powered capabilities, although availability can vary by language and region.
Connectivity and other features
The iPhone Duo supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, 5G and eSIM. Apple says the device does not use a physical SIM card.
The phone also includes Crash Detection and Find My features.
Apple states that the iPhone Duo is IP68-rated for splash, water and dust resistance under controlled laboratory conditions. However, Apple notes that water and dust resistance can decrease with normal wear.
The company has also highlighted the device’s environmental credentials, stating that the iPhone Duo is made with 35% recycled material by weight, is manufactured with 60% renewable electricity, and ships in 100% fibre-based packaging.
With its large foldable display, A20 Pro chip, dual 48MP rear cameras and dual-battery architecture, the iPhone Duo represents Apple’s first major entry into the foldable smartphone category.
