The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has expanded its investigation into an alleged disproportionate assets case involving Dr. Nori Lakshmi Bhaskar, Additional Medical Superintendent and professor at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
Fresh searches at five locations in and around Hyderabad reportedly uncovered additional property documents, cash, and financial records that investigators are now examining as part of the case.
Cash Found at NIMS Barber’s House
Following court-approved search warrants, ACB teams carried out searches at multiple premises. Investigators reportedly recovered ₹4.94 lakh in cash from the residence of a barber working at NIMS.
The agency is examining whether the barber had any financial connection with the doctor and why the money was being kept at his residence.
Investigators also found documents relating to three agricultural properties in Maheshwaram, with an estimated market value of around ₹57 lakh.
Another significant discovery was an open plot in MLA Colony, Banjara Hills, one of Hyderabad’s high-value residential areas. The property’s book value has been estimated at around ₹2.7 crore. Investigators are examining its alleged links to outsourcing employee D. Ganesh and other associates.
More Investments and Loans Under Scanner
The searches also reportedly uncovered two investment portfolios worth around ₹20 lakh and receipts relating to approximately ₹3 lakh in hand loans.
According to the information released in connection with the investigation, the newly identified properties could push the estimated market value of assets linked to the case to more than ₹200 crore. The exact valuation and ownership of these assets remain subject to the ACB’s investigation.
Earlier Raids Revealed Multiple Properties
The latest searches follow an earlier ACB operation on September 22, when officials searched the doctor’s residence in Erragadda as well as premises connected to relatives and associates.
During those searches, investigators reportedly identified eight residential flats and four open plots in locations including Yadadri, Nandigama, Shamirpet and Visakhapatnam.
The earlier investigation also reportedly uncovered:
- ₹41 lakh in bank deposits
- ₹12 lakh in post office investments
- ₹35 lakh in private finance investments
- ₹29.55 lakh in mutual funds
- Around 517.8 grams of gold
- Three cars, including a Jaguar, Audi and Tata Nexon
- Four two-wheelers
- Electronic items valued at around ₹5 lakh
ACB Examining Alleged Benami Assets
The case was registered on September 21 under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ACB is now examining property documents, financial transactions and the identities of people allegedly linked to the assets. Investigators are also trying to determine whether any properties were held through other individuals to conceal their actual ownership.
The allegations remain part of an ongoing investigation, and the properties’ final valuation and legal status will depend on the outcome of the ACB’s probe and subsequent proceedings.
