Bengal Border Gold Seizure: The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized 15.607 kg of gold worth nearly ₹25 crore from a woman in West Bengal’s Nadia district near the India-Bangladesh border. The recovery was made in the Banpur border area following a prolonged surveillance operation based on intelligence inputs.
The woman was detained by BSF personnel and is being questioned as investigators work to determine the origin of the gold and identify its intended recipient.
15.6 Kg Gold Seized Near Bangladesh Border
According to BSF sources, personnel from the 32nd Battalion launched an operation in the Banpur area after receiving information about a suspected smuggling movement.
The jawans maintained surveillance in the area for an extended period. During the operation, they reportedly noticed a woman behaving suspiciously and intercepted her.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of 15 kg 607 grams of gold from her possession.
The BSF has valued the seized gold at approximately ₹24.95 crore, making it a significant seizure along the India-Bangladesh border.
Woman Detained for Questioning
Following the recovery, the woman was detained by the BSF.
Officials are questioning her to establish the circumstances surrounding the gold seizure and determine how the consignment reached the border area.
Investigators are particularly looking into:
- The source of the seized gold
- Who supplied the consignment
- The intended recipient
- The planned route of movement
- Other individuals potentially connected to the operation
- Whether the seizure is linked to an organised smuggling network
The woman is expected to be handed over to Krishnaganj Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The large quantity of gold recovered during the operation has prompted investigators to examine whether the case could be connected to a wider gold smuggling network operating along the India-Bangladesh border.
Officials are trying to determine whether the woman was acting alone or was part of a larger network involved in transporting gold across the border.
