LPG Subsidy New Rule 2026: A new rule related to LPG subsidies has come into effect from October 1, 2026. Domestic LPG consumers receiving subsidy benefits are now required to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA).
The government says the move is aimed at ensuring that LPG subsidies reach eligible consumers and helping prevent duplicate or ineligible beneficiaries.
What Happens If You Haven’t Completed BAA?
LPG consumers who have not yet completed their Aadhaar biometric authentication will need to complete the process to receive the applicable subsidy benefits.
However, not completing BAA does not necessarily mean that the consumer will stop receiving LPG cylinders. The key impact is on eligibility for the subsidy and applicable subsidised refill benefits.
According to the government, around 27.43 crore, or 89.9%, of active domestic LPG consumers had completed BAA as of September 19, 2026.
How Can LPG Consumers Complete BAA?
Consumers can complete their biometric Aadhaar authentication through several options, including:
- During LPG cylinder delivery
- At their LPG distributor’s showroom
- Through the mobile app of the relevant Oil Marketing Company (OMC)
Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to repeat the process.
Why Has the LPG Subsidy Rule Changed?
According to the government, biometric authentication will help ensure that LPG subsidy benefits reach genuine and eligible households. It is also intended to help prevent misuse of LPG connections and duplicate beneficiaries.
Therefore, consumers who receive LPG subsidy benefits and have not yet completed Aadhaar biometric authentication should complete the process to avoid issues with future subsidised refills.
