Heavy rainfall triggered a flood-like situation in Chitrakoot as the Mandakini River rose nearly six metres above its maximum flood level, affecting low-lying areas around Ram Ghat and Nirmohi Akhada. Several houses and shops were damaged, but authorities reported no loss of life.
Chitrakoot Flood Situation
Satna received around 10–12 cm of rain within three to four hours, causing rivers and streams to swell rapidly. The Chitrakoot administration was placed on high alert as the Mandakini water level surged.
Police used drone cameras to monitor the river and flood-affected areas. Residents were advised to stay away from the river and ghats and move to temporary shelters.
CM Mohan Yadav Reviews Relief Work
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the affected areas and met flood victims at a shelter operated by the Chitrakoot Development Authority.
Yadav said the floods caused considerable damage but confirmed that no casualties had been reported. He directed administrative officials to remain in the area for the next two to three days to oversee relief and rescue operations.
Rescue and Relief Operations Intensified
NDRF and SDRF teams are continuing rescue operations across affected areas. More than 350 people have been rescued in Satna district, while an Army helicopter evacuated two people from Chitrakoot.
Authorities have also established relief camps, with more than 500 people reportedly staying in shelters overnight. Food, medicines and other essential supplies are being distributed to affected residents.
