Mainpuri Gas Tanker Accident: A tanker carrying around 1,000 kg of gas from Mathura Refinery to Nepal overturned near Himayunpur village in the Dannaahar area of Mainpuri district on Tuesday morning, triggering panic among locals and commuters.
The capsule tanker had left Mathura Refinery around 12:30 am on Monday night for Nepal. At around 9:30 am on Tuesday, the driver reportedly lost control while travelling on the Shikohabad-Mainpuri road. The tanker veered off the road and overturned in a roadside field.
The impact damaged a valve, resulting in a minor gas leak and spreading a strong smell in the area.
Traffic Halted as Emergency Teams Respond
After receiving information, Dannaahar police and two fire brigade teams reached the spot. Authorities barricaded an area of about one kilometre and completely stopped traffic on the route as a precautionary measure.
Officials from the HP Gas company also reached the site and began rescue and safety operations. Police said another tanker was being brought in to transfer the gas from the damaged vehicle.
Dannaahar Inspector Shatrunjay Kumar Singh said traffic would remain suspended until the situation was brought under control.
Update: Mainpuri Police has acknowledged the matter and said the local police station in-charge has been directed to take immediate necessary action.
