Swaroop Nagar Crime: Four people, including three juveniles, have been apprehended in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, police said.
The investigation began after the girl’s body was found in a severely mutilated condition in an open field. Police initially believed the deceased was an adult woman. Her identity was later established, following which investigators discovered that she was a minor.
Police have recovered two knives, the clothes allegedly worn during the crime and the tempo suspected to have been used by the accused.
More Than 50 CCTV Cameras Examined
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Lokesh Varan, investigators examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and several surrounding routes.
More than 50 CCTV recordings were analysed during the investigation. Police noticed the movement of a suspicious tempo around the time of the incident. However, the vehicle’s registration number could not initially be read clearly because of poor visibility and darkness.
Investigators subsequently connected footage from different cameras to reconstruct the tempo’s route.
On the night of September 15, the tempo was traced to Khadda Colony. Police identified its driver and questioned him. The questioning eventually led investigators to the four suspects, including three juveniles.
Police Allege Minor’s Boyfriend Was Among Accused
Police allege that one of the accused was the minor girl’s boyfriend.
According to the police version, the accused first consumed alcohol with his friends before allegedly sexually assaulting the girl. Investigators said the suspects feared that the girl could report the incident to the police.
Police allege that the accused subsequently attacked the girl with knives, resulting in her death.
The allegations are part of the ongoing investigation, and the exact circumstances of the crime will be determined through the investigation and judicial process.
Body Found Near Agricultural Field
The case came to light on the morning of September 13, when Swaroop Nagar police received information about a body lying near Lal Boundary on Kushak Road, close to a field belonging to Jai Pal Rana.
The body was found in a severely mutilated condition. Police said animals had also damaged the remains, making identification difficult at the initial stage.
A crime team and forensic experts examined the location and collected relevant evidence. The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination.
The investigation continued with efforts to establish the identity of the deceased and reconstruct the events leading to her death. The victim was eventually identified, and police then confirmed that she was a minor.
The four apprehended suspects are now facing investigation in connection with the alleged sexual assault and murder. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
